This week - 25th-29th January 2010, it's food allergy and intolerance week. It seems the perfect time to tell you, for those who don't know, that we offer a wide range of cakes suitable for those with food allergies and intolerances. We specialise in gluten free and dairy free cakes, and we have a selection on offer daily, we also make birthday cakes and cupcakes and slices to order for any special occassions you may have, or just to enjoy at home. We also offer a gluten and dairy free alternative to our traditional afternoon tea at bake-a-boo, which must be booked in advance.
Further to my last post about the photographic exhibition at bake-a-boo from the 24th February, documenting the glamorous life of my Grandfather Ballard Berkeley, I wanted to share this photograph (not part of the exhibition) with you of my Grandfather and I in his garden when I was very little.
From the 24th of February until the 8th of march, at bake-a-boo we will be hosting an exhibition 'Years of Romance' - a photographic tribute to a glamorous life. A collection of remastered and digitally enhanced photographs taken from the glamorous life of the actor Ballard Berkeley. The images cover the period 1920-1939 and include publicity photographs for the theatre and cinema. Hosting this exhibition is particulary special to me as Ballard Berkeley was my grandfather. My father recently dug out several old photographs of Ballard for a documentary 'Fawtly Towers re-opened' which aired in 2009. He then digitally enhanced and restored several of the photographs and has now compiled this exhibition. Seeing these photographs has allowed me to learn so much about my grandfather's acting career and life, as I was very young when he died and I only really knew him as 'the major' in Fawtly Towers, it has been lovely to experience some of his other chararcters through these photographs. I hope that you will enjoy the photographs in the shop during this time.
It may be cold.....but we're back! Back in tea and cake action. Yes it's january, it's diet time, save the pennies time. But with this snow, the january blues and misery - surely tea and cake is the only way?? We're here on hand to serve you yummy cakes and piping hot tea - there's a choice! Although hot chocolate does seem to be the order of the day......did I mention we have that too! Come and see us - get caked up! x

Join us, in conjunction with inside story (gorgeous shop...also on mill lane) and browse gifts, home accesories, Christmas decorations and edible gifts, whilst sipping on mulled wine (god I love it!) and nibbles, of course. This Thursday 10th December, bake-a-boo is having a late night opening with Inside story (50 Mill Lane) We may not be Oxford street!! But both shops offer gorgeous home furnishings, Christmas gifts, art and cards from local artists, Christmas decorations and edible gifts, as well as decorated Traditonal Christmas cakes, and on this evening, as well as the following Thursday 17th December - you can browse whilst enjoying complimentary wine or mulled wine and nibbles. Come and visit us both between 6pm and 8:30pm, and you may just find the perfect gift without all the stress! See you there xx
Catch me this Saturday afternoon at the Beckford school Christmas fair, where I will be judging the cake competition! How funny is that?! Beckford school is one of my favourite places in the world and somewhere that is very close to my heart (as well as being very close to my shop) many of our lovely customers are Beckford mummies (and daddies), but also I used to be a pupil there, and both my first and last days at Beckford are still vivid memories, and I can honestly say that I had the most fabulous time there, even though it was school, and I guess that's saying something!! I judged the competition last year and took my sidekick Leon (our sconemaster) along to help me, and we found it so hard to choose the winners.
Happy birthday to our lovely tea room......3 years old today!! Thank you to everyone who has supported us for all this time. May our tea and cakes live forever!! Hoorah!! x
